If you’re a knowledgeable Airsoft player then you already may be aware that the BBs you use in your gun make all the difference, both with reliability and performance in your airsoft gun. If you’re just starting out in the sport of Airsoft, the greatest advice you will receive is that good BBs are very important.
Using cheap BBs (generally the type you find at sporting good super stores, Wal-Mart, etc) in your high powered Airsoft gun (220 FPS +) can cause a large amount of damage to your Airsoft gun and reduce the life of your gun very quickly.
Using low-quality BBs from a sporting goods store can cause serious damage to the poly carbonate piston after firing only 500 shots. The reason for this is because the cheap low-grade BBs aren’t all perfectly round and are made of cheap low grade plastic that will break apart inside your gun as they are being shot. Even those labeled as Seamless Airsoft 0.25g BBs or seamless Airsoft 0.2g aren’t truly seamless they are labeled this because they have an additional coating of polish on them. These are even worse because the polish will coat your hop-up system causing it to become more inaccurate. This does not mean they are made using the same technique as quality high-grade BBs. The quality of the plastic is entirely different in High quality BBs. They are made with specific high density plastic and precision spherical consistencies.
Advantages of quality BBs:
- These are typically sold by Airsoft retailers, not your local sporting goods store
- Will improve the overall performance of your gun and eliminate jamming
- Will improve accuracy due to the high density of the BBs and since quality airsoft BBs are made with processing consistency, the size, shape and weight of BBs are all exactly the same
- Increase FPS due to improved aerodynamics
- Only use .20G or higher BBs in guns that shoot over 220 FPS
Low Quality BBs:
- Can void your guns warranty!
- Can jam in barrel or gearbox of the gun due to the seams and poor craftsmanship
- Can shatter inside your airsoft guns because the irregular shapes; can wreck havoc to the internal parts of your AEG
- Can strip the gearbox in your automatic electric gun and will cause your motor/gearbox to become jammed; then you are faced with breaking the gun down and replacing the motor.
